AbstractThe constant velocity drive shaft was analyzed by means of hardness testing, microstructure examination and fractographic examination. The results show that the failure of constant velocity drive shaft is the result of hydrogeninduced delayed cracking caused. The high residual stresses by inadequate final tempering process and the installation tensile stress caused by improper installation process in the production line are the reasons of the hydrogeinduced delayed cracking. By improving the tempering and installation process, the fracture problem was finally solved.
