AbstractThe polarization curves of 430 ferrite stainless steel with various RE contents in 3.5% NaCl neutral solutions are measured by electrochemical methodsThe effect of rare earth on corrosion resistance of 430 ferrite stainless steel has been studied by the metallographic examination, SEM and electron spectroscopy. The results show that RE can effectively bate pitting corrosion, while the inclusions of MnS, Al2O3 and silicate in the shape of clump, chain or belt are transformed into tiny dispersive round or oval RE oxide and sulfide and their other compound inclusions. The data of electrochemistry experiment reveal that the optimal RE content is 0.037 0043% for 430 ferrite stainless steel.
