AbstractThe configuration and chemical compositions of scar on hot rolled plate surface of bridge steel Q345q were analyzed by optical microscope, scan electron microscope and EDS analysis. The results show that the scar defects are non-metallic nubby inclusions or non-metal lards. Notches formed under the scar defects. The chemical compositions of the scars are oxides, silicates or aluminates containing Si, Ti, Al, Ca, Mg, which are formed in steel-smelting. So, steel plate face quality can be improved by removing non-metallic nubby inclusions in steel-smelting or cleaning plate slab before rolling.
