Abstract��The microscope and scanning electron microscope were used to analyze the GOST-2 wheel steel with failure low temperature impact toughness at -60 ��. The results show that the main reason is the high phosphorus content, the large amount of MnS inclusions, band structure, and coarse grain in the steel. Adding the grain refinement elements of aluminum and vanadium, and adopting smelting process of low oxygen steel, low phosphorus steel and ultra-low sulfur as well as calcium treatment, the strip inclusions in the steel are eliminated; and the impact toughness of steel at the low temperature is improved, the qualified rate of the product is significantly increased.
