Abstract��Fracture of the crankshaft in air compressor of bulk cement tanker occurred within one month operation. The fractured crankshaft was investigated through chemical compositions analysis, hardness test, microstructure examination, macro-fracture analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS). The results show that required heat treatment are not performed, which resulted into the fracture, and thus the mechanical property of the material could not meet the design requirement. So fatigue strength of the shaft decreased, resulting in early fracture of crankshaft of air compressor.
