Abstract��The uneven hardness of steel 45 produced by BOF��LF+RH��CC of rectangular section��800/650mm Mill in BX Steel appeared seriously. The analysis result indicated that it is due to certain composition segregation and homogeneity of original structure. During the first heating, the austenite microstructure was not fully homogenized, making as-quenched microstructure inhomogeneous. The hardness values varied greatly in different parts of the steel after tempering, some of which cannot meet the demand. In order to solve this issue, the quenching temperature was increased by 40��, the heating duration was decreased, and the steel was quenched secondly. Then the steel was tempered normally. After this process, the results showed that the hardness of steel is uniform and qualified.
