Abstract��Abnormal fracture of SWRH72A hard wire rod in drawing process were classified into: cup cone fracture, wedge shaped fracture and flat fracture. The metallurgical structure, non-metal inclusion, chemical compositon, surface quality near the fracture of the cracked samples derived from SWRH 72A hard steel wire coil after cold drawing were observed by metallographic microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the fracture of the steel were primarily caused by center segregation, abrasion and surface defects. In Light of different cases, precautionary measures to the defect were put forward.
