Abstract��The analysis of the quality issues of the surface cracks on the edge of the SS400 plate was carried out by comparing the chemical composition, microstructure and EDS etc. The results show that surface cracks of the steel sheet existed on the billet, and in the subsequent rolling process the cracks further expanded to form the surface crack of a steel plate. Surface crack is decreased by using continuous casting and rolling technology to optimize the process and develop an appropriate control measures.
