AbstractThe effects of various environments on the corrosion behavior of steels were investigated based on the of the two steels analysis of the rust layers of carbon steel and weathering steel under the atmospherical exposure test and lab accelerated corrosion test. The rust layers were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electron probe X-ray microanalysis (EPMA). The results show that the rust layer of weathering steel was more compact than that of carbon steel. The rust layers were mainly composed of -FeOOH and -FeOOH. The alloying elements were enriched in the rust layer of weathering steel. Although the lab accelerated corrosion test could to a certain extent simulate the atmospherical exposure test, the difference between them existed.
