Effect of Tensile Strain on Low-Temperature Toughness of 9Ni Steel

Abstract��Effect of tensile strains on low-temperature toughness of 9Ni steel for liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanks has been studied. The results of mechanical properties combined with microstructure and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis show that, high strain ageing sensitivity is obtained with the tensile strain of 5% and above. However, the toughness after ageing could be recovered to non-ageing level by a suitable tempering treatment.
