Abstract��72B wire fractured during coiling spring. The metallurgical structure, non-metal inclusion and surface quality near the fracture of the cracked samples was analyzed by metallographic microscopy. The results show that the fracture of the steel was primarily caused by surface defects, including transverse cracks and deformation martensite. Correspondingly, solutions and suggestions for improvement were proposed.
