AbstractFractured fork shaft was analyzed by metallographic microscope and scanning electron microscopy?. The results show that the fracture belongs to typical fatigue fracture, owning both intercrystalline and ductile fracture characteristics. The analysis conclude that pin hole circumferential surface scratches in processing or installation produced stress concentration in?use?process, which is the main reason of fracture. Matrix organization coarsening, widmanstatten structure increasing and martensite structure poor toughness of hardening layer in the process of heat treatment is the leading cause of fork shaft fracture.
