Abstract��The cracking of one elastic washer was observed after a period of time of use. The failure of washer was comprehensively analyzed by macroscopic inspection, fracture scanning, metallographic examination, hardness test and chemical composition analysis. The results showed that the metallurgical property of washer met the relevant requirements. However, hydrogen existed in the matrix of elastic washer, which caused the delayed hydride cracking under stress effect in service process.
