Abstract��To solve the fracture and failure problem of hexagon bolt and bolt in washer assembly equipped in some vehicle model at bench test�� the bolt fracture reason we analyzed by using scanning electron microscopy (SEM)�� metallographic examination�� mechanical properties test�� chemical composition analysis�� friction coefficient test. Results showed the fracture property of bolt was fatigue fracture mainly because the washer hardness in the assembly is too low and plastic deformation under pre-tightening torque leads to insufficient bolt pre-tightening force and final bolt fatigue fracture.
