Abstract��A study was conducted on the reason behind the corrosion of MTO steam heat exchange tube by observing the corrosion morphology and analyzing corrosion product.Results showed that was caused by electrochemical corrosion of water��oxygen and sulfur in acidic methanol�� in addition to uniform corrosion accompanied by severe pitting corrosion. The lower bundle of steam heat exchange tube was below the liquid surface�� with relatively stable medium and less corrosion while the upper bundle was in the gaseous phase�� with complex medium�� dew point easily produced and more corrosion. Pitting corrosion originates from non-metallic inclusion and cementite and Cl�� in the medium accelerates its production and growth.
