Abstract��In view of crack defect on surface of S355J2 steel plate�� the surface crack morphology�� nonmetallic inclusion and structure distribution were systemically analyzed by metallographic microscope�� scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectrometer. The results indicated that the cracks were originated from the entangling of mold powder. Moreover�� the decarburization and internal oxidation at two sides of cracks were observed in heating and thermal insulation process.
