AbstractThe semisolid slurry of A356 modified by cerium was manufactured by self-developed forced convection rheoforming machine (FCR) then the slurry was squeeze casting. Influences of cerium on the primary -Al phaseseutectic silicon phases and mechanical properties of semisolid A356 alloy produced by rheo-extrusion casting process were researched. The results indicated that the addition of cerium modified the -Al grains and eutectic silicon phases. When the content of cerium was 0.6% the refining effect was the bestand the tensile strength of A356 alloy reached 216 MPa and 299 MPa respectively in the as-cast and T6 state which was increased 12.6% and 15.2% respectivelycompared with the alloy without adding cerium element. Moreover the elongation of A356 was greatly improved after the T6 heat treatment.
