Abstract��A automotive seat inner slide rail was cracked in the process of fatigue test. In order to find out the reason for the crack�� it was analyzed by the SEM and metallographic examination. The result showed that there was the oxidation network along the ferrite grain boundaries on the surface of the raw material��which resulted in the sharp reduction of the mechanical property of the material. And the structure at the cracking position was obviously deformed. Thus�� it can be concluded that the crack of the inner slide rail was caused by the defect of the raw material and the residual stress produced in the machining process.
