AbstractThe oxidation behavior of low alloy steel casting slabs at 1 000-1 250 for two hours was studied by means of SEM/EDS/XRD analysis. The results showed that the oxide scale formed at high temperature exhibited a multi-layer structure was mainly composed of Fe3O4 and FeO. When the heating temperature was 1 000 棬 the oxide scale mainly consisted of the outer layer and the inner layer. With an increase of the heating temperature from 1 050 to 1 150 棬 the middle layer was formed and became thicker and thicker. Meanwhile the thickness of the outer layer displayed a sharp increase but the inner layer thickness was not significantly increased. The middle layer structure changed from single layer to double layers when the heating temperature was 1 200 棬 and the oxidation behavior on the surface of matrix changed from homogeneous oxidation to serious grain boundary oxidation. When the heating temperature was increased to 1 250 棬 the middle layer kept the same but the oxidation form on the surface of matrix returned to homogeneous oxidation. Besides Ni and Cu were enriched in the inner layer while Si was concentrated near the interface.
