AbstractThe problems of the macroscopic coarse grains and the duplex grain microstructure were found in the production of 3Cr20Ni10W2 heat-resisting austenitic valve steel. The causes were discussed and the process improvement test was taken during the production practice. The results showed that the coarse grains and the duplex grain microstructure were caused by the carbide segregation and the small deformation of each pass in the forging process. The distribution condition of the carbides and the grains in the steel can be effectively improved by the homogenization treatment of the ingots at 1 180 for 20 hours and the application of the large deformation of each pass in the forging process which can eliminate the macroscopic coarse grain and the duplex grain microstructure.
