Abstract��The requirements for the inspection of the large diameter tube are 100% full detection for the whole pipe�� which includes the transverse defect�� the longitudinal defect and the lay defect. Using the conventional ultrasonic testing�� the detecting efficiency is low�� the mechanical adjustments are complicated and the risk of missing the transverse defect is existed. Through the phased array technology�� the different array delay time can be controlled�� which realizes the focusing deflection and electronic scanning of the ultrasonic beam. Thus�� the defect inspection rate and the testing efficiency of the tube detection have been significantly improved. The settings of the phase array detection technology for different types of defects are introduced�� and the process design of the on-line automatic inspection of the large diameter tube using the phased array is completed.
