AbstractThe fractured chain sample whose material was 23MnNiCrMoA was analyzed by the optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the fracture were caused by the lower Cr element in chemical composition affecting the hardenability and strength of the steel the slags containing MgO SiO2 Al2O3 Na2O and K2O and the surface defects of the scratches and folding cracks produced in the process of rolling so that the cracks extended more easily when the chain in working force which resulted in the chain fractured.
