AbstractFor tinplate as the rolling thickness is thin and the surface quality requirement is high the demand for the smelting and continuous casting processes of this product becomes more stringent. The surface defects of tinplate especially the hole defects severely restrict the current capacity and the performance improvement of tinplate products. The primary cause of the tinplate hole defect is the poor control of the liquid steel cleanliness which is one of the key technologies in the production process of tinplate. The inclusions in steel were examined and analyzed by the scanning electron microscopy bulk sample electrolysis and light microscope and so on. And it was found that the main compositions of the micro and large inclusions were Al-Ca-Mg complex oxide inclusions. Meanwhile the large inclusions containing Na and K were derived from the mold fluxes. To reduce the production of inclusions the Al Mg Ca and Ba compound deoxidation was applied to substituted the pure Al deoxidization and low viscosity mould powder.
