Abstract��At present�� there is no accurate backscattering coefficient of the light with the wavelength of 1 310 nm or 1 550 nm transmitted in the single mode fiber. To achieve the accurate Rayleigh backscattering coefficient�� the relationship between Rayleigh backscattering coefficient�� return loss�� and attenuation coefficient was theoretically deduced and the attenuation coefficient and return loss were tested by experiments. Thus�� the accurate backscattering coefficient of the light with the wavelength of 1 310 nm or 1 550 nm transmitted in a single mode fiber was calculated and determined based on the deduced formula and measurement results.
