Analysis of the mechanism of sliver-type embossment defect on the surface of cold rolled hot galvanized sheet

Abstract:Focusing on the defect in hot galvanized sheet, optical microscope, scanning electron microscope and energy disperse spectroscopy were employed to observe the morphology and detect the chemical position of the embossment defect. Furthermore, the formation reason of sliver-type embossment defect on the surface of cold rolled hot galvanized sheet was analyzed. Judging by the structure and energy spectrum results of some embossment defects, it could be concluded that the appearance of longitudinal crack or peeling before the galvanization technology was considered as the main reason for the appearance of sliver-type embossment defect over the sheet. During the galvanizing process, liquid zinc stacked and grew in the crack and peeling of the sheet, which resulted in the formation of the embossment defect. The hardness of the matrix outer the embossment defect was larger, which was hard to be absolutely blown because that the liquid zinc was wrapped by the outer surface of embossment defect and the matrix of steel. And the residual led to the formation of sliver-type embossment defect.
