A method for displaying the grain of medium and high strength steel

Abstract:With the gradual increase of carbon content inmediumand high strength steels,the microstructure becomes finer,and the grainboundaries obtained by using traditional methods such as direct corrosion are often vague. In order to clearly show the grain size of medium and high strength steels,a grain size test method for it is proposed by using the characteristics of hydrogen embrittlement and intergranular fracture result from hydrogen embrittlement.Through the direct corrosion,EBSD method and hydrogen induced cracking method,the grain boundaries of 55SiCr spring steel and 440 steel arerespectively shown. It can be seen that the grain boundaries shown by the hydrogen-induced cracking method are clearer in the grain size measurement for medium and high strength steels.The result for the assessment is more accurate.
