Abstract:Several abnormal situations in measuring the yield strength of metallic materials are discussed,such as specimen slipping,the extensometer failure in measuring Rp0.2,the parallel length errorinmeasuring Rp0.2 when using the displacement method.The characteristics of the test curve under abnormal situations are described.The causes and effects on the test resultsareanalyzed,and preventive measures are put forward. In daily work,we should not blindly believe in the measurement results automatically obtained by the test machine. After each test,we should check whether the test curve is normal or not,and whether the selected yield point on the test curve is normal or not.
