Abstract: The wrinkle defects on the surface of the wire seriously affect the cold heading performance and drawing performance of the wire. Aiming at the surface wrinkles appearing in the rough rolling process of 35CrMo alloy cold forged steel, the rolling process of different drum-shaped rolling parts in the elliptical hole was analyzed by nonlinear finite element analysis method. And the causes and locations of the wrinkles due to plastic instability on the surface of the rolled piece were analyzed from the perspective of deformation. The results showed that when the square rolling piece was rolled in the elliptical hole, the plastic deformation of the corner part of the rolling piece was severe, and the plastic strain energy density distribution peaks, which was most likely to cause plastic instability and form wrinkles. Increasing the drum shape of the square rolled piece can reduce the peak of the plastic strain energy density distribution and reduce the probability of wrinkle defects on the surface of the rolled piece.
