Comparative analysis of different determination methods for decarburization depth of quenched and tempered 30CrMo steel#br#

Abstract:The decarburization depth of quenched and tempered 30CrMo steel was measured by three methods, including metallographic observation method, micro-hardness method and direct reading spectrum analysis method. The measurement results and operation characteristics of these methods were compared and analyzed. The results showed that the values obtained by former two methods were smaller and close with each other, and the mean value was about 73% of the result obtained the later method. For the metallographic method, the decarburization could be judged according to the color fading of microstructure at low magnification instead of morphological change at high magnification, and it could get more accurate values. The operation of both direct reading spectrum analysis method and micro-hardness method was complicated and time-consuming.
