Abstract: In view of the surface deformation problem of highspeed wire rolling in oval pass with different widthheight ratios, the influence of oval pass widthheight ratio on the surface deformation state of wire rod was studied from the perspective of equivalent plastic strain and plastic strain energy density by the means of nonlinear finite element method. The results showed that the wire rod had the same deformation rule in oval pass with different widthheight ratios. The surface deformation difference of wire rod was the greatest near the critical point of contact between rolled piece and roll. The plastic strain and strain energy density appeared the peak at this point, and the wrinkle defect was easily formed. Reducing the widthheight ratio of oval pass could effectively reduce the difference of surface plastic strain and strain energy density, improve the surface deformation uniformity of rolled piece, and reduce the probability of wrinkle defect.
