Abstract:The δ phase is a second phase in Inconel 718 nickel-based alloy. The shape, size and distribution of the δ phase have a great influence on the mechanical properties of the material. The tensile properties of Inconel 718 alloy bar were unqualified in the production process. The chemical composition, tensile fracture, microstructure and precipitated phase structure in qualified and unqualified batches of bar were analyzed. The results showed that the low finishing rolling temperature of the unqualified batch caused the precipitation of needle-like δ phases with a large number of continuous distributions at grain boundaries and within grains. Due to the relatively weak binding force between the second phase and the matrix, the strength of the material was reduced and the brittleness was increased. The strict control of rolling temperature could avoid the precipitation of needle-like δ phase and improve the tensile properties of the material.
