Heat Treatment to Improve the Fracture Resistance of the TiC Ceramic Cutter |
|
|
Abstract The heat treatment process of improving the toughness was brought forward by studying the effect of heat treatment on the microstructure of the 3Cr13 which is the matrix of the metal based TiC ceramic cutter. This heat treatment process could eliminate the brittle carbides distributed along the prior grain boundaries like a net and bring in refined martensite. Hence, the heat treatment greatly improved the toughness of the cutter’s matrix and effectively enhanced the fracture resistance of the cutter, resulting in a lower cutter fracture ratio.
