Abstract As a result of the instability of smelting and rolling process, the mechanical properties of Q460C often appear to be instable. The effects of different heat treatment processes on the mechanical properties of Q460C steel were investigated. The results show that the strength decreases remarkably after normalizing. The strength and toughness are improved after normalizing and controlled cooling.
