Abstract The application of macro examination technology on quality control of casting slab in the steel mill was introduced. By slab etching and billet etching�� observing and determining the defect level�� the causes of the macrostructure defects were analyzed. The slab and billet casting process was adjusted in time�� which can provide some reliable accordance for the equipment state and process stability of the casting machine.
