Influence of electromagnetic screen on temperature uniformity of strip steel |

Abstract Compared with other traditional induction heating methods,transverse flux induction heating (TFIH) has higher efficiency during the heating of thin strips and strips above the Curie point. However,when a TFIH device is used for the heating of strip steel,the temperature distribution of strip is non-uniform due to the ‘edge effect’. Aiming to solve the problem, the addition of electromagnetic screens on both sides of strip steel was proposed in this paper to reduce the eddy density at the edge of strip. 45 strip steel with width of 800 mm was used as heating objective in this study. The coupling calculation of eddy field and thermal field on strip surface for TFIH device was conducted using COMSOL simulation software under two conditions, i.e., with and without electromagnetic screen. The temperature of strip steel at induction heating device outlet was compared along the width direction. The influence of electromagnetic screen on heating process was analyzed and the optimal installation position of electromagnetic screen was obtained.
