A new type of tundish porous pocket block with argon blowing function was developed,and its structure and working principal were introduced. The influence of the gas flow rate on the distribution of gas and the bubble size in the tundish and mold were studied by water model experiment. Test results show that all the amount and diameter of bubbles in mold increased gradually with increasing gas flow in porous pocket block,and the appropriate simulated gas flow rat is 2-3 L/min. The porous pocket block was applied to produce ultra-low carbon aluminum calming steel DC04 by slab continuous casting,and the results showed that the product had the metallurgical effect of removing the non-metallic inclusions in liquid steel and preventing clogging of nozzle and submerged nozzle, and the life of the submerged entry nozzle is increased from 2-3 heats to 5-7 heats.
