Mandrel Mill Rolling Process for TC4 Titanium Alloy Seamless Tube and its Application

  • Described in this paper is the manufacturing process for rolling the TC4 titanium alloy seamless tube with the mandrel pipe mill. Addressing the deformation characteristics and performance law of the titanium alloy, and based on the technological regulations for producing the alloy steel tube with the mandrel pipe mill,a process scheme especially prepared for rolling TC4 titanium alloy seamless tube is worked out. Relevant production practice proves that the said process is capable of producing titanium alloy tubes with qualified geometric dimensions and excellent outer and inner surface quality that then are further subjected to finishing process and heat treatment process to become qualified titanium tubes in terms of geometric dimensions and properties;the tube is applicable to the fields of deep sea drilling and aerospace,etc. Furthermore the microstructure and properties of the said TC4 titanium alloy are tested. As a result it is found after being rolled, the titanium alloy develops composite α +β basket weave structure, and its post-annealing properties are up to the requirements as specified in relevant agreement.
