Review on the rocket sled loading velocity measurement system
-
Abstract
The rocket sled is an aerodynamic measurement system that integrates a rocket with a sled(i.e., a rail).By harnessing the rocket’s thrust to propel a test object along the rail at high velocity, it enables a range of experiments, including structural integrity tests under aerodynamic loads, flutter and buffeting tests, and aerodynamic heating tests. These tests facilitate the measurement of the test object’s high-speed motion state and the analysis of its aerodynamic performance. The article analyzes the testing challenges associated with rocket sleds, such as the long engine exhaust plume leading to significant electromagnetic wave attenuation and substantial vibration and shock interference. It also outlines the principles and testing procedures of commonly employed speed measurement methods in rocket sled experiments, including the break-wire target testing method, radar velocity measurement, rocket sled image-based velocity measurement, and GPS velocity measurement.Furthermore, the article proposes that the future development directions for rocket sled testing systems should focus on achieving higher speeds, intelligence, safety, miniaturization, as well as improved environmental adaptability.
