Feasibility study of HIsmelt low titanium slag applied to cement mixture

  • In order to fully utilize the technical advantages of the wide applicability of raw materials in HIsmelt technology and improve the value of metallurgical by-product recycling, low titanium slag samples from the conventional smelting of vanadium titanium magnetite using HIsmelt smelting reduction process were analyzed to study its feasibility for application in cement mixtures. Analyzed the physical and chemical composition, mineral phase composition, and activity index of low titanium slag in HIsmelt, compared with conventional slag in HIsmelt, analyzed the factors that may affect the activity of low titanium slag in HIsmelt, and proposed measures to improve the activity of low titanium slag in HIsmelt. The results indicate that the specific surface area and chemical composition of HIsmelt slag are important factors affecting the activity of low titanium slag in HIsmelt. As the specific surface area of slag powder increases, the 7d activity index of HIsmelt slag powder also increases. The activity index of low titanium granulation slag in HIsmelt is negatively correlated with the TiO2 content in the slag. The activity index of low titanium granulation slag in HIsmelt can be approximately inferred through the regression equation between the 28d activity index and TiO2 content, which can be used to quickly guide the composition control of HIsmelt process slag in actual production. The low titanium slag produced by adjusting the proportion of vanadium titanium magnetite in smelting raw materials has the feasibility of being used as a cement mixture material, and can be increased by increasing the HIsmelt low titanium granulation slag activity index. Exploring further improvement of the activity of HIsmelt low titanium water quenched granulation slag by increasing the specific surface area of granulation slag grinding powder, raising the slag discharge temperature, and increasing the granulation temperature drop rate.
