Effects of rapid solidification on hydrogen storage properties of Ti0.32Cr0.345V0.25Fe0.03Mn0.055 alloy

  • Ti0.32Cr0.345V0.25Fe0.03Mn0.055 alloys were prepared by vacuum arc melting and copper mold casting to study the effects of the rapid solidification on the hydrogen storage alloys, which were investigated by XRD, PCT, TG/DTA. The results showed that the as-cast alloy and the rapidly solidified alloy were both composed of the main phase of BCC solid solution and Laves second phase. The rapid solidification had a significant effect on the kinetics of the first hydrogen absorption behavior, and the mechanism changed from the chemical reaction control for the as-cast alloy to the formation and growth control of the new phase crystal nucleus for the rapidly solidified alloy. After the rapid solidification, the absorption and desorption plateau pressure increased, and the starting point of hydrogen absorption moved left, but the hysteresis increased. The TG/DTA curves showed that the rapid solidification did not change the residual hydrogen content of the alloy, but increased the hydrogen evolution temperature of hydride.
