Recovery and reuse of solid waste in South Korean iron and steel industry

  • The slag, dust, sludge and other by-products have been treated as resource in the plant areas of two major iron and steel enterprises in South Korea, widely used as raw materials of construction, reused as raw materials in iron or steel making process, or turned into high value-added products. In recent years, the resource utilization rate of by-products has reached more than 98%. At the same time, through cooperating with other industries, implementing innovative practice, effectively utilizing cow manure, limestone sludge, end-of-life vehicles and other solid waste in city, the iron and steel industry is striving to achieve coexistence and harmonious development with the location area.
