Equipment and Trial of 5 m Heavy Plate Mill at Baosteel

With the development of ship building and petroleum natural gas industries in China,there is a great demand for high-grade heavy plates.Thus Baosteel decided to build a 5 m heavy plate mill. The mill is an advanced one and controlled by computer systems. In the first phase of construction,a finishing stand was set up, with an annual capacity of 1.4 million tons. The Plant was put into operation on March 1st 2005,and the design monthly capacity was reached in May 2006. The layout and production process is outlined with adopted technologies, including TMCP，thickness control, plan view pattern control, plate shape control. Finally the result of commissioning and trial production are presented.
