Abstract: In order to understand the effect of alloying process on steel cleanliness, alloying experiments are carried out by using a kind of ferrochromium alloy. The types of the inclusions in the alloy and the steel are detected, and the evolution of inclusions is investigated. More than nine types of inclusions are found before and after experiments. Cr2O3SiO2MnO system inclusions and Cr2O3SiO2MnO system inclusions with some silica islands inside are the main types of inclusions in the alloy. After alloying, most of the types of inclusions presented in the alloy disappear and transform into alumina inclusions in the liquid steel. Alloying process would worsen the cleanliness of liquid steel, and can be seen as one of the reasons to generate alumina inclusions at the late stage of industrial refining process. Alloy adjustment should be finished as early as possible during refining process to improve steel cleanliness and prevent clogging.
