Abstract A largescale gratekiln, was brought into operation smoothly at ShouduSteel with assistance of University of Science and Technology Beijing in 2000. Since then, the gratekiln has been developing rapidly in the country. In order to understand the phenomena inside the gratekiln comprehensively. The Shougang Mining Company, cooperated with University of Science and Technology Beijing, performed the thermotechnical measurement on the gratekiln No.2 system with capacity of 2 million ton pellets per year in 2006. The results of the measurement are introduced briefly which might be a reference for the pellets producers and kiln designers in China.
