Abstract The highcycle fatigue fracture behavior of 60Si2CrVA spring steels produced by two different metallurgical processes were studied by using rotating bar twopoint bending fatigue machine. The experimental results indicate that the characteristics of the inclusions in these two steels were different, which was the main reason for the significant difference of their fatigue properties, although their oxygen content was almost equal. Compared with X8 steel produced by the metallurgical process of EAF+LF+VD+CC, the number and size of inclusions in X6 steel produced by the metallurgical process of LD+LF+RH+CC was decreased obviously, especially the number of Al2O3riched hard inclusions was reduced, therefore the latter had not only higher fatigue strength, but also higher fatigue life stability.
