Abstract In order to keep low super heat and constant temperature casting and for excellent product quality,a new tundish heating equipment of horizontal continuous casting machine was proposed, in which a threephase electric arc heating system and argon gas bubbling from tundish bottom are adopted.In this way,the molten steel refining and continuous casting are combined. This equipment is simple for operation and maintenance with high reliability and low operation cost. Comparative analysis of methods of tundish heating with plasma torch, induction coils, and electric arc was performed.The advantages of threephase electric arc heating was proved by practice.
