Abstract Cooling water flow control plays an important part in plate mill controlled cooling process.A typical controlled cooling system on several plate mills is introduced. In order to explain the deviation between controlled flow rate of different cooling components, the system flow regulation properties were analyzed with consideration of characteristics of electric regulation valves, manual butterfly valves and highlevel water tank, etc. And effective methods to improve the flow rate control are presented to optimize design of cooling equipment.
