Carbonized Corn Straw as Thermal Insulating Agent for Liquid Metal |

Abstract The price of thermal insulating agent has been rising constantly recently.The properties of carbonized corn straw using as thermal insulating agent for liquid metal were investigated. The results showed that the carbonized corn straw possesses higher content of fixed carbon, smaller resting angel (for better flowing property) and lower coefficient of thermal conductivity compared to carbonized rice husk. Both the laboratory test and practical application showed that the carbonized corn straw has better thermal insulating performance, but with higher sinking rate and a possibility of agglomeration.Thus, a satisfactory thermal insulating agent can be obtained by mixing carbonized corn straw with carbonized rice husk.
