Abstract The precipitates in hot rolled strip of two grades of nonoriented electrical steel (W540, W800) produced by CSP process and one grade of nonoriented electrical steel (W20) produced by conventional process were investigated. Statistic analysis showed that, the average size of precipitates in the steels produced by CSP process after coiling is reduced slightly. With the increase of Si and Al content, the type of precipitates changes while the average size does not change. No distinct difference in average size of precipitates were detected in hot rolled nonoriented electrical steel strips produced by two processes.
