Numerical Simulation and Application of Type Optimization on Tundish |

Abstract Tundish type has an important influence on the steel fluid flow in tundish, moreover influences metallurgy effect of the tundish. By the evaluation criterion of the residence time of fluid in tundish, the tundish structure of a production plant was optimized by numerical simulation method. The results show that the volume fraction of piston flow region was increased from 39.3% to 69.6%, and the dead region was decreased from 10.11% to 4.77%,and the biggest denseness time of outlet was prolonged 200s, and Casting Remnant decreased 3.5 ton. The total quantity of Macro-inclusion was decreased by 72.35%. The optimized tundish has been used stably in this steelmaking plant since Dec.2008. The result of shows that metallurgy effect of the tundish has been improved greatly and production cost was cut down and distinct benefit was created for the plant.
